ABOUT US

Family Physical Therapy is a family- owned business run by Earl and Amber Mayhew - licensed Physical Therapists who work tremendously hard to treat their patients to the best of their ability.

Earl Mayhew, MSPT is a practicing physical therapist, and member of the American Physical Therapy Association, who also teaches at the University of Michigan-Flint campus. Earl graduated from the physical therapy program at Central Michigan University in 2002.  Earl and his wife, Amber, opened the first Family Physical Therapy clinic in April of 2007 as a way to provide the best quality of care to their patients.  Earl has dedicated his professional career to his private practice as well as to teaching and learning. His practice style includes a movement-based functional restorative methodology with a de-emphasis on passive modalities. He utilizes state of the art motion analysis cameras, computers, and software in addressing the biomechanical deficits that he observes in his patients. Earl has a long history of participating in dozens of continuing education courses and seminars.  He currently teaches the human anatomy cadaver lab at the University of Michigan-Flint to the students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. He also teaches a variety of other courses outside of the DPT program including a course that he developed “The Biomechanics of Exercise.” This special topics course is now being considered by the university to be added as an ongoing course offering. Earl also organized a “Biomechanics of Exercise” continuing education course for physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and DPT students.

Amber Mayhew, MSPT is a practicing physical therapist, and a mother of three. She graduated from the masters of physical therapy program at Central Michigan University in 2002. Since then she has participated in numerous continuing education courses and seminars in the fields of spine care, shoulder rehabilitation, gait analysis, and myofascial release. Amber, along with her husband Earl, opened the first Family Physical Therapy clinic in April of 2007 as a way to provide the best quality of care to their patients. They opened their second clinic in February of 2009 to better accommodate a wider demographic of patients. Her practice style includes movement-based functional restorative methodology with a de-emphasis on passive modalities to address deficits in patients’ biomechanics. Amber treats patients at the Richfield Rd. clinic, as well as their Flushing location.

Lisa Briggs, is a participating physical therapy assistant, and a mother of two, and grandmother of two grandchildren. She graduated with an associate’s degree from Baker College of Flint’s PTA program in 1996. She holds a limited PTA license in Michigan and a full PTA license in Illinois. Lisa has participated in various continuing education courses in the fields of spine care, shoulder, ankle, women’s health, and myofacial release. She has worked as an outpatient physical therapy assistant since 1998, and has been part of the Family Physical Therapy team since 2008. Lisa worked with for several years Earl and briefly with Amber at another facility before her time at Family Physical Therapy. She shares Earl and Amber’s philosophy that movement based functional restorative methodology is the best way to provide patients with quality care. She treats patients primarily at the facility in Flushing, and occasionally at the Richfield Rd. location as needed.
